Naomi Ono Kern holds a Bachelor of Architecture, as well as concentrations in Nature-Culture-Sustainability (NCSS) and Theory and History of Art and Design (THAD) from the Rhode Island School of Design. While at RISD, she also studied in the Textiles department, learning spinning, weaving, dyeing, and knitting.

Her work, which ranges from architectural design projects to textile and performance art, largely deals with domestic and service labor. In her design practice, this renders itself in a prioritization of labor visibility, as well as in an emphasis on choreographed interaction between labor/production and leisure/consumption. She views these spaces of interaction as potent and necessary bolsters of communal connection.
